British online gaming operators were forced to quit the profitable U.S. market last year. The European Union told the United States that EU wanted compensation for a US ban on foreign online gambling sites. The World Trade Organisation also ruled in December last year that the law unfairly targeted offshore casinos after U.S. Govermenr stopped U.S. banks and U.S. credit card companies from processing payments to online gambling businesses outside the country.

Ted Strickland, Ohio state’s democratic governor, has asked the GOP controlled legislature to ban cash payouts from gaming machines, which are increasingly popping up around the state. Strickland threatened the veto during a news conference with Attorney General Marc Dann. Governor and Attorney General Marc Dann said devices that function like a slot machines and pay winners in cash should be illegal in Ohio.

House of Lords rejected government plans for the country’s first super-casino. Manchester has been chosen as the site for the UK’s first Las Vegas-style casino, but the House of Lords rejected the decision to build the UK’s first super-casino in Manchester.
The government, proposing to set up a large super casino, lost a parliamentary today.

Britain’s culture secretary T. Jowell compared the United States ban on online gambling to the alcohol ban of the Prohibition as she prepared to host an international summit on Internet gambling next week.

T. Jowell warned that the U.S. ban on Internet gambling would make unregulated offshore sites the “modern equivalent of speakeasies,” illegal bars that opened in 1920s America when alcohol was banned.
