The European Union has demanded compensation from the United States

British online gaming operators were forced to quit the profitable U.S. market last year. The European Union told the United States that EU wanted compensation for a US ban on foreign online gambling sites. The World Trade Organisation also ruled in December last year that the law unfairly targeted offshore casinos after U.S. Govermenr stopped U.S. banks and U.S. credit card companies from processing payments to online gambling businesses outside the country.

Ohio Ban on Gambling

Britain’s culture secretary T. Jowell compared the United States ban on online gambling to the alcohol ban of the Prohibition as she prepared to host an international summit on Internet gambling next week.

T. Jowell warned that the U.S. ban on Internet gambling would make unregulated offshore sites the “modern equivalent of speakeasies,” illegal bars that opened in 1920s America when alcohol was banned.
